How To Make Hard Boiled Eggs In The Oven (Bake Them Instead of Boiling)

February 8, 2022 By Alamin Howlader Leave a Comment

I really love to eat hard-boiled eggs.

But I really don’t like the process – boiling a big pot of water, timing the boiling, managing the flame, lid on, lid off…HUH!

Half of the time, I end up with wrong timing and as a result, I get over-cooked, hard to peel eggs.

Thanks to US celebrity chef Alton Brown for this genius solution. He recommends baking eggs in the oven – rather than boiling them in the water.

How To Make Hard Boiled Eggs In The Oven

If you are not satisfied with the way your boiled eggs turn out, you may want to try a different way of cooking – thus, this alternative way for hard-cooked eggs that didn’t involve boiling eggs would be a great solution for you!

Alton Brown says baked eggs come out 100 times better if you bake eggs instead of boiling them.

And for a large number of eggs, try baking them. It’s easy, hassle-free, and time-saving as well. Baked eggs have a creamier texture.

It’s really a great alternative to get hassle-free boiled eggs.

He admits that the recipe might seem a little crazy at the beginning, but believe him. You just need to get an all-wet kitchen towel (make sure the rag is totally wet).

1. Put the wet towel on the center rack of your oven (believe him). Preheat your oven to 320 degrees

2. Place the eggs as much as you want on the towel – make sure they are not touching. (You can also use a muffin tin instead of the wet towel.)
The towel will prevent from getting discolored eggs by the warm racks. The metal rods play a role as a little nest for your eggs.

3. Now, take out the warm rack from the oven and grab the four corners of the towel that looks like a cradle for the eggs.

4. Place the eggs in an iced water bowl until cooled completely, for about 10 minutes.

Now if you are planning to make Easter eggs – then dry them. Or, if you are going to eat them – then simply peel them.

Though Alton says, baking in the oven makes the eggs harder to peel. However, we didn’t have any problems like that.

Possibly the best part of baking eggs in the oven is the texture of the eggs. Baked eggs are creamier than boiled. Baked eggs result in the best hard-cooked eggs we’ve ever had.

Please do a test with fewer eggs to figure out the perfect oven temperature for your particular oven.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q- Is there any alternative to the wet towel?

Answer: Yes, of course. You can use a muffin tin with cotton balls. Make sure you place the heavy side down to get the best-shaped eggs.

Cotton make-up remover rounds work perfectly….they are reusable too.

Q- Though I’m using a wet towel, can it burn through the oven heat?

Answer: It might sound like the wet towel can be burnt through the oven heat, but that’s not true. If you are using the oven on a regular basis – then you have a clear idea that the wet towel can’t be burnt in the oven, right?

Q- Does the shell get harder to peel off?

Answer: Not at all.  In fact, baked eggs make the shell easy to peel 100 times better. Remember, don’t keep the warm eggs in the iced water for too long – it will make it difficult to remove the shell.

And there are lots of delicious recipes you can try to enjoy the hard-boiled eggs. They are creamier than boiled eggs in the water. Just give them a try and explore what recipe you love the most.
